New Delhi: The ministry of home affairs, on Wednesday, while taking precautionary measures, alerted all the states and Union territories against the chances of violence during the counting of the Lok Sabha election votes. The MHA said it received inputs that “calls were given in various quarters for inciting violence.”

The MHA has given instruction to state chief secretaries and director generals of police, and asserted that the states and UTs must adopt adequate security measures to maintain law and order in all areas.

A statement issued by the ministry says: “The home ministry has alerted the state chief secretaries and director generals of police regarding the possibility of eruption of violence in different parts of the country in connection with the counting of votes tomorrow.”

The statement further says: “This is in the wake of calls given and statements made in various quarters for inciting violence and causing disruption on the day of the counting of votes.”

The security advisory comes when central security agencies received inputs that some organizations and individuals may try to create law-and-order problems during the counting of the votes, especially in the states of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Tripura. In these states there are chances of untoward incidents, which might disrupt the counting process.

The counting of votes after the marathon 7-phase election, which started on April 11 and ended on May 19, would be take place on Thursday.
