Indian Coast Guard seizes drugs worth ₹600 crore from Pakistani boat

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard, on Tuesday, seized a drug-laden Pakistani vessel, “Al Madina”, off the Jakhau coast in Gujarat. According to official information, a total of 194 packets of heroin weighing 200 kilograms were seized. The drug is estimated to be valued at ₹600 crore in the international market.

The crew of Al Madina has been detained for interrogation.

The Coast Guard while acting on an intelligence input from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence that a Pakistani fishing boat was waiting to deliver narcotics near the international maritime border, sent a ship and two fast interceptor boats to intercept and raid the suspected vessel.

Despite rough sea conditions, the Coast Guard chased the Pakistani boat and its personnel succeeded in boarding it. In the meantime, the crew of the vessel flung some of the bags containing the drugs into the sea. The Coast Guard personnel were able to retrieve seven of the packets from the sea.
