‘Conspiracy’ against CJI Gogoi: Justice AK Patnaik to probe; NV Ramana opts out

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Thursday, asked Justice AK Patnaik, one of its retired judges, to look into advocate Utsav Bains’s allegations that there was a conspiracy to frame Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on charges of sexual harassment.

A special bench of Justices Arun Mishra, RF Nariman and Deepak Gupta also directed the CBI director, IB director and Delhi Police commissioner to cooperate with Justice Patnaik whenever need be.

Although Justice Patnaik will not go into the issue of sexual harassment allegations against the CJI. A panel of three sitting judges, comprising of Justices SA Bobde, Indira Banerjee and NV Ramana, has been constituted for the matter.

Meanwhile, Justice NV Ramana opted out of the panel, on Thursday.

 The Supreme Court, earlier hitting out at “systematic” attempts to influence the course of justice delivery, said, “time has come when we have to tell the rich and powerful of this country – you cannot run this court.”
