Coronavirus pandemic: Centre allows travel for stranded workers, students, tourists

New Delhi: The Centre has allowed migrant workers, tourists, students and other people, who are stranded in different parts of the country due to the coronavirus, Covid-19, lockdown, to travel to their respective destinations. However, this comes with certain conditions.

The Union home ministry, on Wednesday, said buses will be used to transport groups of such stranded people and everyone will have to follow social distancing while on board these buses.

The ministry said all states and Union territories will have to designate nodal authorities and draw standard protocols for sending and receiving these people. The nodal authorities will also have to register the stranded people within their states and Union territories.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 infections in the country have crossed 33,000 with 1,738 new cases. With 71 new deaths, the death toll in the country due to the coronavirus infection is now 1079.

Among the other countries, the United States of America is leading the grim coronavirus chart with over 1.06 million infections and over 61,500 deaths.
