New Delhi: India witnesses a sharp increase both in the number of new coronavirus infections and deaths from the disease. On Monday, India saw over 1,500 fresh cases and 58 new deaths.

The total number of coronavirus infections in the country has now exceeded well over 29,000 and the death toll has crossed 900.

Meanwhile, the government has tried to allay the fears of people, which resulted in stigmatization of the patients at some places. This has resulted in people hiding their symptoms that matched with the new coronavirus, Covid-19, infection.

On Monday, the prime minister, Narendra Modi, had a meeting with chief ministers of states via a videoconference. According to reports, a decision has been taken to extend the ongoing lockdown in the hotspots (red zones) and relax it in the coronavirus-free areas (green zones), as categorized by the Union health ministry recently. The current lockdown was slated to be lifted on May 3.

Worldwide coronavirus cases cross 3 million

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases across the world has crossed 300,000, on Monday. The global death toll since the Covid-19 outbreak has crossed 211,000.
