Finally, monsoon hits Kerala coast after a weeklong delay, alert sounded in state

New Delhi: The monsoon finally hit the coast of Kerala, on Saturday, after a delay of a week. It missed its usual June 1 date. The India Meteorological Department confirmed its arrival on June 8.

A high alert has been sounded in four districts in Kerala. Red alert has been sounded in Lakshadweep as well.

The Kerala Disaster Management Authority has sounded a red alert until June 11 following heavy rains. It may be noted that rains caused heavy flooding and widespread devastation in Kerala in 2018.

Parts of the state are expected to receive 115–204.5mm of rainfall. Red alert has been issued for Thrissur for June 10, while the same has been issued for June 11 in Anarkulam, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

Apart from this, orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Anarkulam and Thrissur for 9th June.
