New Delhi: A girl was arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin airport, on Monday, for allegedly shouting “fascist” at a senior BJP member from the state.
Lois Sofia, 22, who lives in Canada, reportedly shouted “fascist BJP government down, down” at the Tamil Nadu BJP president, Tamilisai Soundararajan, on board a plane they were travelling in.
Sofia’s father said the incident took place at Tuticorin airport after boarding down from a plane. The two were travelling in the same IndiGo flight from Chennai to Tuticorin.

A senior police officer said Sofia was arrested after Tamilsai filed a complaint with the police at the airport. Later in the day, she was produced before a magistrate, who sent her to a 15-day judicial custody.
Speaking on the incident at a news conference on Monday, Tamilisai said, “When I was coming out after the flight landed, she (Sofia) saw me and suddenly shouted ‘down with fascist BJP government.’ I questioned her. She replied that she has right to freedom of expression and called me a ‘fascist’ again. So, I thought I should not ignore a terrorist and must file complaint against her. So I filed a petition.”
Meanwhile, her father Dr AA Saami lodged a countercomplaint against Tamilisai and some other BJP party members.
