In Jammu, 1 killed, 32 injured in a grenade attack at bus stand

New Delhi: A grenade attack at a Jammu’s General Bus Stand killed one person and injured 32 others, on Thursday. This is the third grenade attack by terrorists since May last year. The inspector general of police (Jammu), MK Sinha, while confirming the grenade blast, said there were no specific alerts from intelligence agencies prior to the attack.

The injured have been taken to a hospital in Jammu, which included 11 residents of Kashmir, two from Bihar and one each from Chhattisgarh and Haryana.

He said, “Whenever there is a heightened state of alert, we step up checking. There is always a possibility of someone to slip through … appeal everyone to remain calm. Police are working on all leads.”

The bus of the state road transport corporation suffered extensive damage in the blast and the area is now enclosed by the cops after the blast.

According to officials, the grenade a suspected militant lobbed the grenade near a ticket-booking counter around noon when there was heavy rush of travellers. Later, one Yasir Javed Bhat, a resident of Khanpura, was arrested by the Jammu & Kashmir Police from the Nagrita area when he was trying to escape to Kashmir.
