New Delhi: Two BJP lawmakers from Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, fought each other with fists and shoes at an official meeting, in Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar, after arguments in presence of minister in charge of the district, senior administration officials and several public representatives.
Sant Kabir Nagar BJP MP Sharad Tripathi and Rakesh Baghel, one of the BJP MLAs from the district, broke out after a heated argument over a foundation of stone of a road in which the MLA’s name was mentioned but the MP’s name was missing. MP expressed his displeasure while holding MLA responsible for it.
The situation turned worse when Tripathi took off his shoes and thrashed Baghel, in presence of rolled cameras to capture the action. Baghel too responded and attacked Tripathi, after which a police officer intervened to separate the two.
In Lucknow, BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey confirmed Tripathi and Baghel were summoned to the state capital and that strict disciplinary action will be initiated.
A day after the fierce fight and being summoned by the high command, Tripathi alleged that Baghel was involved in illegal activities and said, “All contracts, including those of sand mining and road construction, are awarded to him (Baghel) or his men as he resorts to pressure tactics. Why only he is getting contracts? Are other contractors dead?”
While denying the allegations, Baghel said, “All charges against me are baseless. You can check with the officials that I have never forced them for anything”, and added, while reasoning the fight, “The plaque was for a two-lane road worth Rs 25 crore which was inaugurated on March 5. The plaque was not even put up as its inauguration was to be done by the CM (Yogi Adityanath). Tripathi did not attend the programme. He wants his name but does not want to work.”
