New Delhi: The postmortem report of Payal Tadavi, the BLY Nair Hospital junior doctor who was found dead recently in her hostel room, says a ligature mark was found on her neck. The autopsy report, under “provisional cause of death”, says  “evidence of ligature mark over neck”.

During a pre-trial hearing in the case, Payal’s family lawyer told the court that circumstances of the junior doctor’s death suggested it was a murder case. Nitin Satpute, the counsel representing Payal’s family said, “From the circumstances of her death and bruise mark on her body, we can say that it must be a case of murder and not of suicide. Police must investigate this case in the lines of a murder investigation. Police should be given 14 days’ time for that.”

Further, Satpute said, “The accused had taken her body to some other place and later it was brought to hospital so there is a suspicion of tampering with the evidence.”

The matter was being heard before magistrate RM Sadrani of a Mumbai sessions court.

The case is treated as suicide until now. Earlier, on Tuesday evening, all three accused for abetting Payal’s suicide have been arrested. A Mumbai court then sent them to police remand for two days.

The three are all women doctors from the same hospital where Payal worked. Those arrested are Bhakti Mehre, Ankita Khandelwal and Hema Ahuja. These doctors are accused of tormenting the 26-year-old Payal Tadvi with casteist slurs.
