New Delhi: Voting for the third phase of the Lok Sabha election concluded on Tuesday amid reports of EVM malfunctions and sporadic violence, in which one person was reportedly killed outside a polling booth in West Bengal.

According to the Election Commission’s official Voter Turnout app at 10pm, around 66 per cent of the eligible voters exercised their franchise across India. This is likely to change with data still coming in.

This was the largest phase of the ongoing general election where voting took place for 117 with constituencies across 13 states and two Union territories. Among the states, Assam recorded the highest turnout with 80.75 per cent of the eligible voters casting their vote. Jammu & Kashmir recorded the lowest turnout of 12.86 per cent, where voting was held for the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency. Election for this constituency is being held in three phases because of security reasons.

The Union territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli recorded a turnout of 79.59 per cent.

The Phase 1 of the election saw a turnout of 69 per cent while the Phase 2 also saw a similar turnout.

Polling was by and large peaceful in the Phase 3. However, there have been reports of violence in West Bengal. A 55-year-old man was reportedly hacked to death outside a polling booth in Murshidabad district during clashes between Trinamool and Congress workers.

EVM malfunctioning was reported from many states, including Kerala, Goa and Uttar Pradesh. Two polling agents of the Bharatiya Janata Party were also reportedly arrested in Tripura for causing disturbances inside a polling station.

With the conclusion of the Phase 3, voting for 302 Lok Sabha constituencies have been completed.
