New Delhi: Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, the 39-year-old son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Narayan Datt Tiwari, who was declared dead, on Tuesday night, in south Delhi, has probably been murdered, according to a doctor who carried out his autopsy. Initially, it was suspected that Tiwari died of a cardiac arrest.

The autopsy report, which was released on Friday, said Tiwari didn’t die a natural death and was most probably killed by being smothered with a pillow.

According to media reports, Dr Sudhir Gupta, professor and head of forensic science at AIIMS, one of the five doctors who conducted Rohit’s postmortem said, “Some marks have found around his neck and the asphyxiation could have been caused by one or more pillows.”

Following this, the Delhi Police have registered a case of murder and transferred it to the crime branch. The officials of crime branch and forensics team visited Tiwari’s house, on Friday, and questioned his family members and domestic helps. During their search , the police have found some pillows in Rohit’s residence, one of which had bloodstain on it.

However, the police said a clear picture will emerge once the full autopsy report is handed to them, which is likely to happen next week.

At the time of the incident, Rohit Tiwari’s wife and his brother Siddharth were present in their Defence Colony house. During the inquiry they revealed that he refused to have dinner that night and slept until 4pm the next day. The family then discovered that his body had turned cold.

Rohit Tiwari had gone to Uttarakhand to vote on April 12 and returned on the night of April 15. And in the CCTV of his residence he was seen taking support of the wall while walking in an inebriated state, when he returned.

The final report from the police in this case is awaited.

Rohit Shekhar Tiwari came to the limelight when he sued Narayan Datt Tiwari, his biological father, to accept him as his son. ND Tiwari had refused to give his blood sample for a DNA test in 2012. However, he later agreed after court pressure. The DNA test subsequently proved Rohit to be ND Tiwari’s biological son.

In 2014, the Delhi high court declared ND Tiwari as the biological father of Rohit Shekhar and restrained the senior Tiwari from denying it in public. Following this, the senior Congress leader accepted that Rohit was indeed his son.
