Opposition targets Modi over his caste background, says PM a ‘forward by birth’

New Delhi: Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav, on Sunday, insisted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a “forward by birth,” a day after Modi emphasized his ‘most backward caste’ background in response to Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati’s comment dubbing him as a ‘fake OBC’.

Tejashwi, in a tweet, claimed that he had predicted earlier that PM would say he belonged to the extremely backward caste.

In another tweet, P Chidambaram said Modi was the first person who became the Prime Minister after “wearing his caste on his sleeve” during the 2014 campaign by saying, “I am an OBC.”

Mr Narendra Modi is the first person who became PM later who campaigned wearing his caste on his sleeve (2014): "I am an OBC".

Now, he says he has no caste!

However, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while interacting with the reporters in Amethi, said that she was not aware which caste Modi belonged to.

 She said, “even today, I do not know his (PM Modi’s) caste. The opposition and Congress leaders are only raising issues related to development. We never made any personal remarks against him.”
