New Delhi: Om Prakash Rajbhar, whose Suheldav Bhartiya Samaj Party is an ally of the BJP-led Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, decided to go independently in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. He has fielded his party candidates for 39 seats in the state.

Interestingly, the party has fielded Siddarth Rajbhar against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi constituency and Babban Rajbhar against Union home minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow.

It is speculated that the recent development come after OP Rajbhar walked into Adityanath’s home at 3am on Sunday with his resignation letter and demanded to see him. However, he was turned away as the “chief minister was sleeping”.

Media reported that the Rajbhar was seeking to contest the election from five seats on his party symbol, however the Bharatiya Janata Party turned down the request.

Speaking to reporters, on Tuesday, Rajbhar said, “I was willing to work out an understanding with the BJP, but have been forced to go solo, as we were not given any seat. On the other hand Apna Dal (S) was given two seats.”
