New Delhi: Rebel BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha, known for his sharp criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party, is set to join the Congress on Thursday, according to Congress sources close to the matter. The development comes after Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad replaced him from Bihar’s Patna Sahib seat.

Rumours had been circulating that he might join Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, but it was not to be.

Setting the rumours aside, Bihar Congress’s campaign leader and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh, on Monday, told reporters that Sinha would be joining his party on “March 28 or 29”.

A few days ago, Sinha, while hinting he would not be working under Narendra Modi anymore, tweeted: “Sir, the Nation respects you, but the only thing the leadership lacks is credibility & trust factor. Leadership jo kar rahi hai aur kah rahi hai kya log uspe vishwas kar rahe hain, shayad nahin [sic].”

Sinha further tweeted: “Mohabbat karne wale kam na honge, teri mehfil mein lekin ham na honge (you may perhaps have no dearth of admirers, but I would not be among them).”

Sinha has expressed his unhappiness on with Modi and the Bhartiya Janata party’s leadership on multiple occasions. His recent tweets criticizing the BJP for replacing Lal Krishna Advani with BJP chief Amit Shah for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency and “I’m capable of answering back” remarks further clarified that he might soon quit the party.
