Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam joins Samajwadi Party, to contest Lok Sabha election against Rajnath Singh in Lucknow

New Delhi: The wife of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Sinha, joined Samajwadi party, on Tuesday. She was welcomed in the party by Dimple Yadav, party chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife. 

The party has confirmed that she would contest the Lok Sabha election from the Lucknow constituency against Union home minister and BJP heavyweight Rajnath Singh.  

It has been speculated for long time that the UP mahagathbandhan of the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal will nominate Poonam Singh from the Lucknow constituency.

Interestingly, Poonam’s husband Shatrughan, recently joined the Congress. He quit the BJP after his relation deteriorated with the party senior leaders, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shatrughan Sinha will contest the Lok Sabha election from Patna Sahib seat. His main opponent there is senior BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
