Video of Sambit Patra eating meal cooked on smoke stove kicks row

New Delhi: BJP spokesman Sambit Patra, who is contesting from Puri in Odisha, landed in a controversy, on Sunday, when he tweeted a video of him eating at a village household where a woman is cooking on a chulha (smoke stove). This caught the eye of social-media users started taking pot shots at Patra asking what happened to the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana scheme that provides gas connections to poor households.
In the video, Patra can be seen sitting on the floor eating while an old woman cooks by his side on a chulha.

The Ujjwala Yojana scheme, was launched in 2016, and under the scheme, rural women who fall under the BPL (below poverty line) category were supposed to get free gas connections. The government also cited this scheme as one of its key successes.
