World leaders congratulate Narendra Modi over Lok Sabha election 2019 results

New Delhi: With the trend indicating that the National Democratic Alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party heading towards a landslide victory on the 2019 Lok Sabha election, international leaders have already started to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for retaining power with an even greater mandate than 2014.
The first to extend his wishes to the prime minister was the Sri Lankan president, Maithripala Sirisena, who took to twitter to congratulate him.

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, also congratulated his “friend” Modi. Netanyahu tweeted: “Sincerely greetings to you, my friend Narendra Modi, for your impressive victory in the elections! The election results are another confirmation of your leadership and the way you lead the world's greatest democracy. Together we will continue to strengthen the great friendship between us and India and Israel and lead it to new heights.”

Foreign ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar announced on Twitter that Chinese President Xi Jinping has also congratulated Modi.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, also extended their wishes to Modi in a telephonic conversation earlier on Thursday.
Ashraf Ghani, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, also congratulated Modi on getting a “strong mandate.”

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the president of Maldives, in a tweet, also congratulated Modi and said, “It is a strong affirmation of the Indian people's confidence in the BJP-led government. I look forward to closer and enhanced ties of Maldives-India cooperation.

The Portuguese prime minister, Antonio Costa, while congratulating Modi, said, “Together, we will make sure that relations between Portugal and India will rise to a new level of friendship and cooperation in the next years.”

Many more world leaders are expected to congratulate Modi as the evening progresses and when the Election Commission makes the official declaration of his win.
