Zomato’s reply to customer for cancelling order over Muslim delivery man gets widespread support

 Delhi: Amit Shukla, a Jabalpur resident ordered food from Zomato, the popular app-based food delivery service, on Tuesday. However, he refused to take the order because a delivery boy was Muslim. Shukla also demanded to change the delivery agent and asked to cancel his order. 

Shukla, who has now deactivated his Twitter account, also shared screenshots of his chat with delivery executive on Twitter and said: “@ZomatoIN is forcing us to take deliveries from people we don’t want else they won’t refund and won’t cooperate I am removing this app and will discuss the issues with my lawyers.”

During his conversation with the company’s helpdesk, when asked about the issue with the delivery agent, he replied that they are observing month of Shravan and don’t want a delivery from a Muslim man.

Replying to his tweet, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said, “We are proud of the idea of India – and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values. [Sic]

Earlier, the company responded on Twitter to the complaint raised by Shukla saying “Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion. [Sic]

While replying to his request for cancellation of order, the company said that cancellation cost after the delivery person has picked the order will cost the user ₹237. Shukla has cautioned the company with legal action accusing them for not refunding the money on cancellation.

Meanwhile, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has been appreciated for his heroic reply to the customer.
