Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a public gathering in Rae Bareli, on Sunday, which was his first rally following BJP’s loss in the recently concluded assembly elections in five states. While covering his speech, NDTV tweeted quoting the prime minister: “Over 1,250 crore houses have been set up. People have celebrated Diwali in their new homes. The houses we make will have water, electricity, gas connections and toilets.”

However, if one carefully listens to his speech (at 19’42”), Modi had said: “Ab tak desh mein sawa-sau crore se zyada gharo ka nirman kiya ja chuka hain. (Till now more 1.25 crore houses have been constructed.)”

Later, NDTV tweeted the same thing with a correct figure, as quoted by Modi.

The NDTV faux pas was enough for Congress members to ridicule and assail the prime minister. The official handles Congress’s SC department, Mumbai Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam tweeted attacking the prime minister.

They were then joined by other Congress members to ridicule and assail the prime minister on Twitter.
