New Delhi: BSP chief Mayawati, on Monday, assailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on the Alwar gang rape. She alleged that women workers of the BJP were scared of their husbands meeting Narendra Modi fearing they might also “abandon their wives like the prime minister”.

Modi, during an election rally at an in Kushinagar, on Sunday, had accused her of shedding “crocodile tears” over the Alwar gang rape. He also dared Mayawati to withdraw support from the Congress government in Rajasthan if she “really cared” for dalit women and girls.

Mayawati in a verbal attack against the BJP said, “I have come to know that in the BJP, married women leaders get scared when they see their husbands going near PM Modi. They fear that like Modi they might also abandon their wives.”

The BSP supremo requested women voters not to vote in favour of the PM (BJP). She also took the name of Modi’s wife Jashodaben.

Mayawati said, “Under such circumstances, I request all the women of the country not to give their votes to such a person. This would also be their real respect to the deserted wife of Modiji.”

She also accused Narendra Modi for using such a “heinous” crime (as the Alwar gang rape) for political purposes.

She said, “He (Modi) is trying to play dirty politics over it so that in the elections his party can be benefited. It is extremely shameful. How can he respect others’ sisters and wives when he has left his own wife for political gains?”

While taking into notice of Modi’s remark, Mayawati said her party was saddened and concerned over the Alwar incident and could also think of withdrawing support to the Congress-led government for not taking prompt action and ” there should not be any doubt in the minds of anyone over this.”

Jaitley slams Mayawati for her remarks

Reacting to Mayawati’s comments on Narendra Modi and his estranged wife, Jashodaben, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley criticized the BSP chief and said her comments brought the political discourse to an all-time low. He also attributed the comment to the former UP chief minister’s prime-ministerial ambitions.

Jaitley tweeted that she is firm on becoming the prime minister. Her governance … her personal attack on Modi exposed her as “unfit for public life”.

In his tweets, Jaitley also slammed the West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee.
