Baba Ramdev says a couple’s third child onwards should be disenfranchised to control population
Baba Ramdev, yoga guru and the head of FMCG major Patanjali Ayurved Limited, has called for taking away voting rights of a couple’s third child and subsequent children as a measure to control India’s rapidly growing population.
At a news conference in Haridwar, where his company is headquartered, Ramdev, on Sunday, said India wouldn’t be able to sustain itself with a population of 150 crore. He said if such a law is enacted, it would deter people from giving birth to more children, “no matter which religion they belong to”.
Currently, it is estimated that India’s population has already crossed 130 crore and will overtake China, which has a population of 140 crore, by 2024.
