The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, held the Tablighi Jamaat responsible for the spread of the new coronavirus, Covid-19, infections in UP and elsewhere in this country. He said being infected with the virus was not a crime but to hide it was definitely one.

Speaking to a television channel, on Saturday, Adityanath said, "The Tablighi Jamaat’s role (in spreading the disease) was condemnable. To get a disease is not a crime but to hide a disease, which is infectious, is definitely a crime and the crime has been done by those associated with the Tablighi Jamaat.” He then said, “The Tablighi Jamaat is responsible for the infections in Uttar Pradesh and elsewhere. Had they not hidden the disease and acted as its carriers, then we could have probably controlled the coronavirus outbreak to a large extent.”

A high concentration of Covid-19 infections were found in members of the Tablighi Jamaat who congregated at Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on March 10–13.
