Naveen Patnaik says ‘Rahul Gandhi tried a lot’ in the Lok Sabha election

Biju Janata Dal leader and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik said Congress president Rahul Gandhi “tried a lot” in the Lok Sabha election, but failed.

In an interview with Times of India, Patnaik, while answering a question on Gandhi, said, “I think he tried a lot, but you can see the results.”

The Congress won just 52 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, which is a slight improvement from its 2014 tally of 44.

Patnaik’s BJD stopped Narendra Modi’s juggernaut in Odisha and won the assembly election with 112 seats in the 147-member house. The BJP got 23 seats. In the Lok Sabha election, the BJD won 12 out of 21 seats in the Lok Sabha election while BJP got only nine seats.
