The Union home minister, Rajnath Singh, on Thursday, said the government has no objection on holding the election for the Jammu & Kashmir assembly along with this year’s general election, which is expected to take place between April and May this year. He also said that the home ministry will extend all the help to the Election commission.

He made his remarks while replying to a brief discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the statutory resolution seeking approval for the presidential proclamation under which central rule has been imposed in J&K

Prior to Singh’s reply, finance minister Arun Jaitley strongly opposed Ghulam Nabi Azad’s charge that the current situation of J&K is because of BJP rule. He said, “The Congress using undemocratic means had manipulated the election processes in J&K to stay in power. Congress’s (past) mistakes are hurting Kashmir, not the recent rule of the BJP.”
