New Delhi: BJP announced its first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election, on Thursday, declaring that Smriti Irani will contest from Amethi against Rahul Gandhi.

Union minister Smriti Irani is all set to take on the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, from Amethi for the second time. In the 2014 polls, Rahul Gandhi defeated Irani from the Amethi seat by a margin of 1.07 lakh votes.

Irani came out very confidently after her name was declared and said that last time, she had reduced the victory margin of Rahul Gandhi by 80 per cent in just three weeks.

She further added that Gandhi seeking support from Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav is a proof that this time he cannot contest from Amethi on his own, which is a bad sign for his party.

The Lok Sabha election will be conducted in seven phases from April to May. And the result will be out on May 23.
