Arun Jaitley.

In a blog post, the finance minister Arun Jaitley, on Thursday, said a new class of compulsive contrarians had arisen who have “no qualms about manufacturing falsehood” and who believe “that this government could do no good”. This was an oblique reference to the Congress and its president, Rahul Gandhi, who had been attacking the government, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal, which Congressmen claim as “scam”.

The government, especially Jaitley, has called Gandhi and the Congress “liars” because of this.

Jaitley, is currently in the United States for medical treatment, and he cited a list of “compulsive contrarians”, like he motioned who have adopted double standards whenever it suited them.

He said, “Free speech and the right to dissent are critical components of a democracy but falsehood, subversion and institutional destruction are not.”

He added, “The right to campaign for stifling funds to the economy in the name of autonomy, justifying corruption in the name of institutional independence, attacking Judges when the verdict is not favorable, manufacturing facts as in the case of Judge Loya’s death and the Rafale deal are indicative of the mindset of the Compulsive Contrarians. [Sic.].”

He concluded his post, by saying: “A nation is built by those with positive mindsets and a national vigor, not by the Compulsive Contrarians.”
