Navjot Singh Sidhu backs opium cultivation, says ‘opium is way better than heroin’

Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, on Sunday, batted for the legalization poppy cultivation for the production of poppy husk and consumption and sale of opium. Sidhu said that opium is “way better than heroin”. 

Sidhu also backed suspended Aam Aadmi Party member of Parliament from Patiala Dharamvira Gandhi who has been fighting for the legalization of the poppy cultivation. 

He said, “I appreciate Gandhi for raising the demand of legalizing the cultivation of opium. My uncle used to get opium as medicine from hospital. It is way better than ‘chitta’ (heroin), which SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia introduced in the state, due to which parents had to see (dead) bodies of their children.”

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had recently announced that dope test would be made mandatory for all recruitments and promotions in the Punjab government.
