Congress’s Pawan Khera says ‘powerful person who benefitted from Mehul Choksi is protecting him’
Congress spokesman Pawan Khera, on Sunday, alleged that Mehul Choksi, the fugitive Indian businessman wanted in the Punjab National Bank fraud case, is seeking to “register a new company in the United Kingdom” and a “powerful man who benefitted from him” was “protecting him”.
During a media briefing, in New Delhi, Khera said Choksi had applied for the registration of his company in the UK with its principal address in Dubai only three days ago. He asked whether the Narendra Modi government was aware of it.
Khera said, “… Also, if agencies like CBI and Enforcement Directorate made any effort to extradite him.”
To support his claim, Khera also exhibited documents, which purportedly supported his claim.
The Congress spokesman said, “Who has benefited from Choksi and who is this important, powerful man who is saving him. Why has the (Narendra) Modi government applied for extradition of Choksi from Antigua with which India has no extradition treaty.”
