When his attention was drawn towards his party’s love-hate relationship with Shiv Sena, the Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, conceded that there were issues between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party its ally, the Shiv Sena. “But,” he asserted “it has not ever affected governance.”

“Some Sena members are unhappy, but not all,” he said, adding, “(if this was the case) it would have created difficulties in running the government for him.”

Addressing reporters, on Monday, Fadnavis said he is ready to share seats with BJP ahead of both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He further said, “If Sena has already opted pro-Hindutva stand, then through default mechanism Sena can’t ally with Congress-NCP, instead has to ally with BJP”.

Justifying the alliance, the chief minister said, “If BJP fights solo, it will struggle but eventually win. But in larger interest of Maharashtra, the BJP-Sena alliance is must and should happen.”
