Mamata Banerjee.

West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to create a rift between Bengalis and non-Bengalis in her state.

While addressing a sit-in protest against the violence against TMC workers after Lok Sabha election results were declared, she urged the people to raise their voice against – what she called – the “torture” of the BJP.

Banerjee said, “The BJP is trying to drive a wedge between the Bengalis and non-Bengalis in in the state … they want to destroy the communal harmony ... I hate a party like BJP.”

She then said, “I would urge the people of this country to raise their voice against communalism.”

She also vowed not to spare the BJP “goons”. She said, “Over 400 Bengali families have been rendered homeless by BJP goons … I won’t spare the goons.”

Banerjee also alleged that some police officials were acting on directions from BJP leaders. She said, “We won’t tolerate it … will take action against them.”
