Mehbooba Mufti on Yasin Malik’s detention: ‘You can imprison a person, not his ideas’
Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, on Saturday, sparked a controversy when she questioned the legal grounds of detaining Jamaat-e-Islami cadres and Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik. She said, “You can imprison a person but not his ideas.”
Calling the detention an “arbitrary move”, Mufti tweeted: “In the past 24 hours, Hurriyat leaders and workers of Jamaat organization have been arrested. Fail to understand such an arbitrary move which only precipitate matters in J&K. Under what legal grounds are their arrests justified? You can imprison a person but not his ideas.”

The arrests of Kashmiri separatists, on Friday night, comes ahead of the hearing on Article 35A in Supreme Court, which is likely to take place on Monday.
