Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday, assailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for saying that the Congress-led UPA government ordered surgical strikes only on paper and videogames. He said the prime minister has insulted the armed forces with his remark.

Speaking at a news conference, Gandhi said the Indian Army is not his personal property. He said, “The Army, Air Force or Navy are not personal properties of Narendra Modi ji, like he thinks. When he says that surgical strikes during UPA were done in videogames then he is not insulting Congress but the Army. These air strikes were done by the Army and we do not politicize the Army. The prime minister should not insult the Army.”

On Friday, Modi, while addressing an election rally in Rajasthan’s Sikar, had said there are no record of any surgical strike carried out against terrorists during the UPA government adding that they must have been carried out on paper and videogames. Modi said this in reaction to Manmohan Singh’s claim that his government carried out several surgical strikes but never used them for votes or politicized the armed forces.
