Shiv Sena member of Parliament Sanjay Raut, on Sunday, said the country is heading towards a “fractured mandate” phase and Union minister Nitin Gadkari is waiting for this opportunity.

Sanjay Raut is also the executive editor of the Sena mouthpiece “Saamana”, and on Sunday, he wrote in the paper that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “stature has declined” while Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s “stature has risen”.

Raut also added that the 2014 win for Narendra Modi was “an opportunity wasted” and that the scenario has changed now.

Talking about Gadkari, who served as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2010–2013, Raut wrote: “Gadkari is now waiting for the hung Lok Sabha of 2019” suggesting that in the case of a hung Parliament following the Lok Sabha election, the Union minister can become the consensus candidate for the post of the prime minister.

The Shiv Sena, which is an ally of the BJP, has been criticizing the Narendra Modi government and had been taking pot shots at the prime minister almost on a regular basis for a while now.
