Uma Bharati.

Senior BJP leader Uma Bharati, who was one of the torchbearers of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, on Friday, welcomed the Supreme Court decision on mediation. However, she said only a Ram temple can be constructed on the disputed site.

Bharati, in an interview with Indian Express about the Supreme Court’s move to resolve the decades-old dispute through mediation, said the apex court is very keen to sort it out, which is a “good thing”.

She further said, “Because the court itself had accepted that the centre of that structure is Ram Janmabhoomi, the birthplace of Ram Lalla (Infant Ram). We must remember that one party in this dispute itself is Ram Lalla Viraajman. (Ram Janmabhoomi resident deity Infant Ram is represented by the Hindu Mahasabha.) The way to be found is how to construct a temple there. Except the temple, nothing can be constructed.”

She added, “I am appealing to all political parties to join together to create a sentiment in favour of Ram Mandir, so that it will be an advantage of the nation, not just the Bharatiya Janata Party’s.”
