New Delhi: A Delhi court, on Thursday, has accepted Indrani Mukerjea’s plea to turn approver in INX Media corruption case in which former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti are involved. Indrani Mukerjea is currently lodged in Byculla jail in Mumbai awaiting trial for the murder of her daughter, Sheena Bora.

Special judge Arun Bhardwaj approved the petition filed by Indrani, in which she had disclosed the conspiracy of the case involving Karti Chidambaram and her husband Peter Mukerjea and herself. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on July 11.

P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram are facing probe in the INX Media corruption case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Karti was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau in 2018 for his alleged involvement in the case. The Enforcement Directorate and the CBI are investigating the case where Karti managed to get clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for INX Media to get ₹305 crore in overseas funds when they actually had clearance only for ₹4 crore. Karti has received at least ₹3.5 crore bribe from Mukerjeas’ INX Media in exchange for clearance, claimed the CBI.

The ED has also claimed that Peter and Indrani Mukerjea had pursued P Chidambaram, when he was the Union finance minister to ensure their application to get through without delay.

The ED has attached properties of Peter and Indrani Mukerjea as well as properties of Karti Chidambaram and a firm worth ₹54 crore.
