Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, said BJP MPs should hold padayatras (foot march) in their Lok Sabha constituencies totalling 150 kilometres from October 2 to 31, the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Vallabhbhai Patel.

While addressing lawmakers at a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary party, Modi said, “MPs must also go to constituencies where BJP is weak. The party programmes are linked to the government’s plan to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary on a large scale.”

Prahlad Joshi, the parliamentary affairs minister, said, “Teams of MPs will be formed in each constituency which will undertake 15km of padayatra daily. The MPs have been asked to organize programmes on Gandhiji, freedom struggle and tree plantation.”
