Naveen Patnaik.

Odisha chief minister and Biju Janata Dal founder Naveen Patnaik, while seeking a fifth consecutive term in office and maintaining equidistance from the UPA and the NDA, said the aim is to make is state as one of the leading states.

In response to people’s ability of making a distinction while voting as the voters in Odisha are plumping for Narendra Modi as prime minister, Patnaik, in an interview with Hindu, said, “Well, we have stated clearly in our manifesto, that our party will support any government at the Centre which fulfils the just demands of Odisha. So it should not be a contradiction in terms for the voter to vote for us in the assembly and others for Parliament.”

There have been speculations on Patnaik’s plans recently. He was absent from the opposition rallies, especially the one held by Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, in January, where the leaders of almost all major opposition parties took part.
