Nirmala Sitharaman.

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Sunday, while speaking at an event marking International Women’s Day event in Chennai, said Pakistan failed to act against terrorism on its soil and India had to carry out the air strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan. She said the government decided to hit at the terror “nerve centre” based on intelligence that it was being used to train, fund and capacitate suicide attackers.

Sitharaman said, “We kept giving them (Pakistan) dossiers, proof and kept requesting for action, ever since the time of the earlier government. But any concrete action was not taken.” She further said the prime minister, Narendra Modi, during his visits to numerous countries, had urged the global community to isolate Pakistan because of its failure to take concrete action against terror.

She said, “We have taken efforts to isolate (Pakistan), identify terror camps and bring it to the notice of the global community. As a result of this, after (the) Pulwama (terror attack) and February 26, all countries have stood by India, except one, which also did not overtly support Pakistan.”
