Amit Shah: ‘Manmohan Singh said minorities have first right to resources, Modi says our government is for tribals’

BJP president Amit Shah, during an election rally in Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Badwani, on Thursday, evoked former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s December 2006 remark that “minorities have the first claim to resources”.

Shah said, “When Narendra Modi became the prime minister, his first sentence was this government is of the tribals and poor, but Manmohan Singh used to say minorities have the first right on resources.’’

While addressing the 52nd meeting of the National Development Council in Delhi, on December 9, 2006, Manmohan Singh, who was the prime minister then, had said: “We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably the fruits of development. These must have the first claim on resources.”

Madhya Pradesh will vote for a new assembly on November 28.
