BJP hits back on Rahul Gandhi’s ‘fuhrer’ barb at Narendra Modi with ‘Mussolini’ jibe
The Congress chief, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday attacked the prime minister, Narendra Modi, with the term “fuhrer”. This tweet came in reference to theNSSO report that said unemployment was at 6.1 per cent in 2017-18, the highest since 1972-73.
And in responding to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet the BJP’s official handle tweeted: “It’s clear that he has inherited Mussolini’s shortsightedness and has a myopic understanding of issues. EPFO’s real data shows a sharp increase in jobs, created in just the last 15 months. Only a man who hasn’t ever held a proper job & is totally jobless can peddle such #fakenews [sic].”

Benito Mussolini was the dictator of Italy during World War II and was an ally of Germany’s Adolf Hitler. Together, along with the Empire of Japan, they formed the “Axis Powers”. Mussolini was captured by Italian anti-fascist partisans and summarily executed by firing, in April 1945. The BJP’s tweet using “Mussolini” was a clear reference Rahul Gandhi’s Italian connection as his mother, Sonia Gandhi, is of Italian origin.
