Kanak Sarkar.

A professor from the Jadavpur University has landed himself in a controversy by posting a comparison of a “virgin girl” to a “sealed bottle” on Facebook.

In a Facebook post, Kanak Sarkar, an International Relations professor in the university wrote: “Many boys remain fool. They are not aware of virgin girl as wife. Are you willing to buy a broken seal while purchasing a bottle of cold drink or a packet of biscuits?”

He also linked the “virginity” with “culture and sexual hygiene”.

He also wrote: “A girl is biologically sealed from birth until it is opened. A virgin girl means many things accompanied as values, culture, sexual hygiene. To most boy’s virgin wife is like angel.”

Calling his post “shocking” and “misogynistic”, the National Commission for Women has asked the state director general of police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action and inform the commission of the same.

While Sarkar deleted his post after seeing such reactions, he also said in his defence that it’s his own opinion. Meanwhile, his own students of the IR department wrote to the department head requesting Sarkar’s removal.
