Mehbooba Mufti threatens to take the government to court over Udhampur-Baramulla highway ban
As the Jammu & Kashmir administration, on Sunday, passed the order of banning movement of civilian and public transport on the National Highway-44 between Udhampur and Baramulla, the state’s political parties urged the people to “defy” official order and called for the revocation of the ban.
Former chief minister of J&K Mehbooba Mufti, on Monday, asserted that she will challenge the government’s order in court and urged to the people to defy the ban.
Mufti while in Pantha Chowk on the outskirts of Srinagar said, “If the government of India thinks that by doing such things, they can suppress the people of the state, they are wrong. We are defying this order and filing a petition in court tomorrow. Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris, and for them to have to seek permission to use their own roads, I will not let this happen.”
After the protest she posted on Twitter with a clear warning to the government:
Protested against Guv admins callous & absurd ban today. How can you restrict civilian movement on our main highway? You want to smother Kashmiris, change the demographics of the state & imprison them in their own land? Over my dead body. pic.twitter.com/y72LUVGhTY
