Sanjay Jha, the Congress party’s spokesman, on Sunday, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was an “authoritarian” while his party leader Rahul Gandhi was a “true democrat”.

While addressing the AIPC (All-India Professionals’ Congress) Lucknow chapter, Jha said both Modi and Gandhi were “contrasting leaders”. The Congress event was themed as “The myth of strong leaders: Why India needs a change.”

Jha, who is also the president of AIPC, said, “Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi are contrasting leaders; one is a true democrat, the other is authoritarian.”

Jha claimed, “Narendra Modi believes that we live in an economy, not in a society. Whereas, Rahul Gandhi believes we live in a society before we live in an economy.”

Jha justified his remark by saying: “Modi talks mostly of GDP, GST, demonetization, digital India etc. All these are important, but Gandhi stresses on education, health, poverty and inequality, communal peace, security of women.” He further said, "Modi generates heat, Gandhi spreads light.”
