Naveen Patnaik says he ‘needs time to think’ on joining anti-BJP mahagathbandhan

Odisha chief minister and Biju Janata Dal leader Naveen Patnaik said he wants more time to decide whether to join the anti-BJP “mahagathbandhan” (grand alliance) in the coming Lok Sabha election.

The chief minister, on Wednesday, said, “As far as the mahagathbandhan is concerned, we will take some time and think it over.”

Patnaik was in Delhi for a farmers’ protest held by the BJD on Wednesday. While addressing the gathering of farmers, he spoke about the Narendra Modi government and how it failed in fulfilling the promises made during the 2014 general election.

Patnaik said, “The Centre cannot run away from providing adequate minimum support price (to farmers) as it is its responsibility. It has not responded to our demands despite several reminders.”
