The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh waded further into the controversy over the Bulandshahr Violence, in which two people, including a police officer, was killed. Devendra Singh Lodhi, who is the MLA from Kasganj, on Friday, said that the police inspector, Subodh Kumar Singh, shot himself, which resulted in his death.

Lodhi said, “Subodh Singh found himself helpless in the crowd and wanted to fire at himself to save himself but ended up shooting himself in the head in haste, which resulted in his death.”

Earlier, the state chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, had said the violence a part of the political conspiracy against him. Earlier, a BJP MP had said the prime accused in the murder of the police inspector was “doing noble work”.

Recently, a group of retired bureaucrats wrote an open letter to Adityanath and ask him to step down as the chief minister of the state over the policeman’s killing. Even veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah expressed his anguish over what happened in Bulandshahr.
