Rahul Gandhi says ‘Congress will remonetize economy damaged by Narendra Modi’s demonetization’

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, claimed that his party would “remonetize” the “damaged” economy with his promised minimum income scheme for the poor. He added that the scheme will not be “rashly” implemented like Bharatiya Janata Party’s demonetization and GST.

Gandhi said if Congress came to power, angel tax for startups would be scrapped. He further talked about their new scheme, NYAY, which he said “would trigger a powerful cycle of consumption and production and fire up the economy”.

Responding to the criticism, he said the party had consulted a large number of economists before deciding on the scheme and that it’s not a “populist measure.”
