On Sabarimala, Rahul Gandhi takes a U-turn, says ‘tradition needs to be protected’
The Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, having earlier said he favoured seeing women of all ages entering the Sabarimala shrine of Lord Ayyappa, has now seemingly taken a U-turn on the issue, which has kicked up a huge controversy and taken a big political dimension since the landmark Supreme Court ruling.
While addressing reporters in Dubai, on Saturday, Gandhi, while replying to a query on the issue, said, “I can see validity in the argument that tradition needs to be protected, and that women should have equal rights.”
However, he added that the issue is way more complicated than one can thought and that the people must decide what should be done.
On Sunday, the Kerala leadership of Congress welcomed Rahul Gandhi’s U-turn on the issue.
