After the Supreme Court reinstated CBI chief Alok Verma, the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, repeating his allegation of corruption against the Narendra Modi government over the Rafale jet deal, on Tuesday, and claimed that “nothing is going to save the Prime Minister.”

On October 23, 2019, a post-midnight government order relieved Verma from his post as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation and a temporary chief was appointed in his place. At that time, Gandhi had said: “CBI chief was removed at 1 am as he was about to begin a probe in Rafale scam.” After the news of the Supreme Court ruling came, on Tuesday, Gandhi reacted to it by saying “some justice has been done.”

When Gandhi was asked if removing Verma at midnight was a government’s move linked to the scam allegations in the Rafale deal, the Congress chief said, “Nothing is going to save the Prime Minister. CBI chief was probing Rafale. Rafale is an open and shut case.”
